Impeach Bush

July 21st, 2003

Remember when Clinton was impeached for lying?

Bill Clinton lied under oath in a sexual assault case about his sexual relationships with those he held power over. This was a lie about an issue material to the case. That makes it perjury.

The Republicans argued that perjury by a President was one of those high crimes and misdemeanors a President could be impeached for because he used his high office to conceal his deception.

Fast forward to the present day.

George W. lied about the threats posed by Saddam Hussein. It is now common knowledge that George W. stated in his State of the Union Address something he knew to be false - that Saddam had attempted to purchase Uranium from Niger.

The CIA had told the White House that Saddam had not attempted to do so and the initial reports of the purchase were forged. Yet, months later, Emperor W, included the false claims in his State of the Union Address.

Further, the National Intelligence Estimate - a then classified CIA document which dismissed claims of Iraq attempting to purchase uranium also stated that Saddam might only take the "extreme step" of giving any WMD he may have to Al-Qaeda or other such terrorist organizations if it would be "his last chance to exact vengeance by taking a large number of victims with him."

So, the CIA told Emperor Bush that Saddam would not attack on "any given day" as Emperor Bush claimed on October 7th. Rather, Saddam would only attack "if Baghdad feared an attack that threatened the survival of the regime were imminent or unavoidable." Yet, Emperor Bush lied to the American people to lead them into a war which was likely to cause an attack.

Further, Bush claimed in a Rose Garden speech that Saddam had the ability to use chemical or biological weapons in a matter of 45 minutes. This is admittedly false. The Administration now admits they took no appropriate steps to confirm this claim which emanated from Britain.

The source of the claim is unknown, but is being blamed upon David Kelly - a British defence ministry weapons expert who supposedly killed himself after denying that he ever suggested to anyone that Saddam was capable of using chemical or biological weapons within 45 minutes. Can anyone say Arkancide?

These are just the tip of the iceberg more deceptions, untruths, mistakes, and outright lies are bound to be unearthed as scapegoats scramble to protect their reputations and their lives. But, according to the position the Republicans took just a few years ago, George W. Bush should be impeached.

Surely a President lying about classified information to trick the American people into an unnecessary war, which could provoke terrorist attacks against the American people, rises to the level of an impeachable offense.

Do the Republicans who argued that "we are a nation of laws not men" have enough integrity to consistently apply those laws?
