Dear Mr. Duensing:
In view of the details you provided about your experience when traveling on December 13, I can well appreciate your concerns. I sincerely regret any embarrassment you may have felt as a result of the passenger and baggage screening process. Since the tragic events of September 11, our government and the airline industry have taken decisive steps to make flying safer. Comprehensive visual and physical passenger and baggage searches are part of this action. While we understand that the physical search of your person and belongings can be awkward for everyone, unfortunately all airports are not equipped with easily accessible private areas in which to efficiently conduct this activity. Further, in the interest of time and security, the searches are sometimes better accomplished spontaneously and out in the open. Nevertheless, we expect these searches to be done with sensitivity and professionalism. Your impressions have been passed along to our General Manager at Chicago O'Hare. Again, we regret any discomfiture or personal inconvenience you may have experienced by the physical search of your belongings. Since airport security is now federalized, we will work with the appropriate agencies to ensure a smooth transition. We believe you will soon observe a more practiced and consistent application of security procedures. Should you have additional information or comments, please contact us at www.aa.com/customerrelations. This is an automated process and if you 'reply' to this e-mail, it will delay our subsequent response to you. Regards,
